If I could describe this past year, my practice, myself, everything around me, in one sentence, it would be:

“What the hell is going on . . . ?”

So, I ran with it. The “sitting” part came a lot later.

Problem: How do I work on a year-long grad project and actually feel good about it despite everything that is happening around me? Disruption, change, chaos, uncertainty . . . you get it. What is worth a year-long effort and commitment that I will feel good about?

Values: Hmm, staying true to myself.

Approach: Pushing what design means to me, communicating the nuance of this current experience.

“GUY” figuring it out . . .

Excerpts from inside and outside the book

Taking traces, breaking, rebuilding, breaking again, and recircling, I have created an expression of my experience — my last year as a graphic design student, in this space, with these people. My uncertainties about the future and anxieties of the present blur the lines between self-reflection and self-destruction.This piece is vulnerable and extremely close to me. Tied together through recurring motifs, memories, humour, and collected remnants, I invite you to stay awhile.

Hey I’m Malvika!

I’m a visual storyteller drawn to the feelings of nostalgia, embracing uncertainty and the chaotic in-betweens. Through a multidisciplinary practice, I explore the nuances of connection, identity, and the idiosyncrasies that shape us.
