Visitor Info

DERMIS PLAID: LIVING ROOM EDITION combines the human body with domestic objects to investigate the modern day body by subverting the expectations and rules within commercialization. Every single object in the room, from the shelves to the table and lamp follow the meticulous and tedious methods of hand stitching and layering, rejecting the typical expectations of rapid commercial production. The combination of shocking imagery and various materiality create an uncanny tactile and visual experience.

The wallpaper is made of latex and fabric, replicating the texture of skin. Each panel is then silkscreened with magnified photographs, of palm lines, finger folds and bumps, emphasizing rough textures and details that are airbrushed out in magazines and adverts. The curtain has images of scabs and veins, mounted upon a window, looking into a scaled down version of the room

DERMIS PLAID is an amalgamation of objects that create a bizarre celebration of the body, emphasizing the imperfections and minute details of the human body. It hopes to confront the viewer, urging them to reflect on their own body, showcasing the beauty within the grotesque that is often overlooked and hidden away.
