Visitor Info

Murmurs: Four Tales of the Wicked and Bizarre is an illustrated, hand-bound short fiction anthology. All four of the works within it have been sourced from Canada’s public domain. The characters have been brought to life through sixteen full-page illustrations, as well as dozens of character portraits and design embellishments.

Murmurs features A View From a Hill by M. R. James, The Adventure of the Creeping Man by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Missing! by Catherine Louisa Pirkis, and The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell.

BOOKMAKING PROCESS

The sketches and layout guides for the illustrations were created digitally, then printed and inked on a separate sheet of paper over a lightbox.

The pages were printed with pigment-based inks on Accent opaque warm white text paper, hand-trimmed, and then the spine was hand-stitched with waxed linen thread.

The cover was created using a custom stamp that was designed in Adobe Illustrator, and then laser-cut out of acrylic.

The upmost care was exercised in ensuring that the materials used in this process were archival and acid-free.
