Galadriel Brolly

Film Logline:

A young, curious fairy grows tired of her familiar forest home and yearns to learn more about how the humans live, what their city is like. Upon her adventure to a human city, she comes to realize she might have taken the forest for granted.

Film Synopsis:

Marceline, a young fairy, lives in a forest oasis. However, she takes it for granted and grows bored of what she has. She has an affinity for found human objects already, not knowing much about them, upon discovering a torn up piece of a postcard showing the skyline of a human city, she becomes increasingly curious and enamoured with this species. She has a brilliant idea! She’s going to pack up her things and try and find this city. She journeys through the forest and sky until she reaches her destination, and she is in awe of this metropolis at first. Until she sees the dark side of this artificial and unnatural environment. She escapes back home to her forest world and, this time, she sees it in a new light. She has reconnected with her home and brought back a friend with her too. She realizes how beautiful and important nature is, and how much harm can be done in a world where nature altered to such an extent, and the natural ecosystems have been built over by humans.

Growing up in a city adjacent to a lush forest, beautiful ocean and towering mountains, Galadriel was raised with a deep respect for Mother Nature. A prevalent theme in her projects is Natural Appreciation. Her Goal is to inspire people to appreciate the beauty of the natural world, especially in a society so focused on capitalism and industrialism. In our attempts to conquer the beautiful earth, we end up replacing its natural beauty with synthetic beauty, and it’s extremely important that we repair our relationship with the Earth, as a species. Galadriel’s film Journey to Reverenceis her contribution to this cause. A stop-motion animation that highlights the key aspects of her belief system. Stop-motion has been a huge part of her childhood, being the medium that her favourite movies were made in. Galadriel is bringing the teachings and inspirations from her childhood into her art, in order to encourage people to be more mindful of and grateful for the Planet and all the life we share it with.

Galadriel Brolly

My name is Galadriel Brolly. I am a fourth year 2D Animation student at Emily Carr University. I’m Canadian born, with Czech, Cree and Ojibwa roots. I’ve been enamoured with stop motion films my entire life since early childhood. As someone who’s Mother is an Herbalist, and Father has an extensive connection to this land as an Indigenous person, I was raised to deeply for environmental causes. I centre my practice around emphasizing the true beauty and inherent magic of the Natural World. Stop-motion is a wonderfully engaging and tactile medium to tell stories with, as you can sense the touch of the artist so distinctly. It’s a labour of love, which allows me to use natural materials and practice uncompromising detail.
