Juno: A Pop-up Space for Tween Girls
Tanya Thind
Project Overview
Juno explores how design can create spaces for tween girls to feel seen, supported, and connected. It responds to the lack of age-appropriate third spaces and the impact of growing up in a world shaped by social media, imagining a physical environment centered on community, creativity, and self-expression. Through visual identity, print, and environmental design, it creates a cohesive experience that brings the space to life and offers a pressure-free place to simply exist, explore, and belong.
Identity
The identity system for Juno is inspired by a modern Y2K aesthetic, drawing from the early 2000s as a formative era of tween culture. It establishes a playful visual language applied across print and environmental design.

The Space & Experience

The space is designed to feel playful, comfortable, and inviting, using visual language that speaks directly to a tween audience. Typography integrated into the wallpaper creates a sense of voice and familiarity, while soft-edged, modular tables and floor cushions encourage a relaxed, more equal way of gathering. Sitting closer to the ground shifts the dynamic, making it easier to connect and engage with others, while movable table elements allow the space to adapt to different activities and group interactions.
Custom elements, including bead bowls and foamcore wall cutouts, introduce tactile and dimensional moments throughout the space. Riso-printed instructions guide hands-on activities like keychain making, reinforcing the project’s visual language through print. Interactive features like the letter wall allow participants to connect with one another over time, while ambient details such as the “cat signal” light contribute to the overall atmosphere and sense of play.

Additional Deliverables
Additional deliverables extend the Juno identity beyond the space, including an animated ad and a series of stickers. The animated ad uses candy hearts to highlight key values of the space and what girls can look forward to, while the stickers add a fun, collectible layer—because who doesn’t love stickers?

Juno Campaign
The Juno campaign builds awareness and invites tween girls into the space, keeping them in the know about the pop-up and its events. It extends the identity across motion and digital platforms, including an animated website header and digital ads. A tear-away poster introduces a shareable element inspired by note-passing, while warm, digital camera photography captures moments of connection to create a nostalgic, familiar tone. Bead typography appears throughout, linking the campaign to the interactive experience of the space.
