Mira Louise D’Souza

Mira’s paintings are made by a dynamic process that involves improvisation and somatic gestures. The colours that she chooses are influenced by colour theory and the rich palette of India, her country of birth.

Kinderberghain

Kinderberghain, 2026, pastel, pigment, gesso, gel medium, oil, acrylic and vinyl paint on canvas, 78″1/4 x 44 1/4″

Having lived in several countries before the age of 12, themes of home, migration, and grief arise in her art practice.

“In fact, really, improvisation is about working between subject and object; the object is merely a place through which questions are addressed.”

– Amy Silman, “Shit Happens: Notes on Awkwardness”

Untitled (ricocheted by your gaze in the fire)

Untitled (ricocheted by your gaze in the fire), 2025, oil on canvas, 60″ x 50″

While in the process of painting, she builds sculptures out of waste and excess. These “shadow works” are held together precariously with materials usually used for their aesthetic properties, not utility.
