ABOUT
NURSE. is a nonlinear narrative story that follows a character named Pocchi. This will be a five-minute film with long holds, pauses, and a limited yet complex animation style and movement. This film has three characters, with Pocchi as the protagonist: the one struggling between the passion to follow his dream of becoming an artist and the pressure to go into nursing, something his surroundings indicate he should succumb to. PRESSURE is a character that is a visible manifestation of that nursing route, and Yanta is a minor character that serves as the push that Pocchi needs to recognize his dream.
FILMMAKER’S STATEMENT
BUNIILA is heavily inspired by the Kyoto Animation art style and a variety of video games, ranging from Apex Legends to Tomodachi Life. She has worked on a plethora of projects, including her completed self-directed short film A Clover in My Palm, and her ongoing web comic series The 71 Liars. She has recently completed her grad film NURSE. This is a story inspired by her own experience, and a letter to the common experience of the Asian immigrant experience of the pressure to succeed over all else: success is above ourselves. NURSE. It is her personal experience, but told in a way that hopes to put anyone watching with their own thoughts and stories into the film as the main character. It is a taboo, almost secret experience, and she wants it to be shared.

BUNIILA is a Filipino-Canadian artist and animator. She graduated from Emily Carr University of Arts + Design with a Bachelor’s degree in 2D Experimental Animation. In a lot of her illustrations, her motto is “if it’s not an eyesore, it is not complete.” When not creating art, she can be found buying something based on Hachiware from the Chiikawa series.
