Eggle / 에글: Dyslexia-Friendly Planner Kit, 2026

Project Background
This project started from my personal experience of discovering dyslexia. It explores dyslexia not as a disorder, but as a different way of processing written language, where words are often recognized visually.
Based on this, I developed a dyslexia-friendly typeface and expanded it into a planner kit. The size, binding method, and layout were designed with a focus on dyslexia-friendly accessibility. The system was produced in both English and Korean versions.
The planner kit includes a planner, stickers, notepads, and a fabric bag-style case. It is designed to support a more comfortable and flexible reading and writing experience.
Colour Palette
A deep navy was selected for the text and a cream tone for the background to support comfortable reading for people with dyslexia. To enhance the writing experience, the pages were printed on cream-coloured paper.
The colour palette also includes white and yellow, inspired by the “O” shape in the Eggle typeface, which forms a small egg character. Soft brown tones were used for lines to reduce visual strain.

Dyslexia-Friendly Typeface, Eggle
The principles of constructing Latin letters and Hangul(Korean) are very different, so the approach to designing a dyslexia-friendly typeface also differed between the two scripts.
For Latin letters, the focus was on avoiding symmetry and emphasizing a heavier stroke weight at the lower parts of the letterforms. For Hangul, which is a syllabic system built through combinations, the focus was on maintaining generous internal spacing and consistent stroke weight.
However, to maintain the visual identity of the dyslexia-friendly typeface Eggle, the stroke corner radius was kept consistent across both scripts.

Lined & Grid Layout
The differences between Latin and Hangul type systems also influence the way we write. Unlike Latin script, which is written in a linear horizontal flow, Hangul characters are formed through the combination of initial, medial, and final consonants (choseong, Jungseong, Jongseong).
Because of this, a grid layout can feel less comfortable when writing in Latin script. Based on this, a lined layout was used for the English version, while a grid layout was used for the Korean version.

Additional Note Sections
Some people with dyslexia prefer to understand and record information visually. Based on this, the planner includes enough note section pages for more visual, journal-like ways of recording.
The English version uses a lined layout, while the Korean version uses a grid layout. Dot grid and blank pages are added at the end as extra options for flexible use.

Smyth-Sewn Lay-Flat Binding
with a custom cover structure
People with dyslexia often feel more comfortable processing information visually. Based on this, the planner includes expanded note sections that support more flexible, image-based ways of recording. It is bound with a 180-degree lay-flat binding to make writing easier and more comfortable.
The planner has a paper pocket that contains stickers and a description card explaining how to use the planner. The string is attached to the back using eyelets, so it can be closed tightly and safely.

Accessories
The planner pages were designed with a minimal layout to allow for flexible and personal ways of recording. To support this, accessories such as stickers and notepads are included in the kit, and all text is set in Eggle, a dyslexia-friendly typeface.

Planner Bag
A planner bag was made so people can read and write freely anytime and anywhere. It has space for the planner and a pocket for items such as a passport, flight tickets, and small stationery like notepads.
The strap can be removed, so the bag can be carried like a book case or worn as a crossbody bag. It also comes with eight buttons with Eggle mascot characters and short phrases, which can be added to the bag for decoration.
