Artist Statement

This film is an exercise in understanding how propaganda can permeate domestic/ familial settings. Inspired by real-life rhetoric that I have experienced and observed, I write this story with empathy to point out the absurdity and hypocrisy of bigotry and Islamophobia, specifically from a South-Asian context. Thus, the film hopes to remind people the strength of love over learned hate, and how young people can raise their voices against the status quo, starting with home.

Tanishiqa Gupta

Tanishiqa is a young filmmaker and artist, originating from Punjab, India, currently living and making in so-called Vancouver as an international student. Her films are deeply personal reflections of the way she sees the world – engaging in questions about community and identity. As an immigrant, a woman, and a neurodivergent person-of-color, her subject matter is often preoccupied by the examination of the Political in the domestic and interpersonal sphere. She also has a keen interest in 16mm experimental Analog film practices.
