The Clown Tent
Quitzia Gonzalez
where play-fullness meets care and comfort
The melancholic nature of clowns is what drew me in ever since I was young. I have always been a very sensative person and often got teased for it. I have found myself exploring that feeling of comfort and what being aware of the emotions we are feeling internally can look like through the mediums of ceramics and print, with clowns and stars being a constant motif in my work.

preciousness and fragility
Ceramic work often has a sense of care-fullness. I found myself wanting to break that barrier and invite people in. How can handling the work create a difference response, what does the new found closeness create, can i bring people into my world?
An Invite Into the Clown Tent

An Invite Into the Clown Tent focuses on bringing people into my world. I created a “clown body” painting workshop and invited people to decorate their own clown, which I would take and turn into dolls to give back to them. My love for clowns comes from a place of reflection and seeing how people reacted to seeing their clowns on display and how they interacted with them made it feel as if I had gotten one step closer to what I am searching for within my work.
i wish to see people see these clowns as themselves or as a part of them, a small token and reminder to not be afraid to feel and explore those deeper emotions we often bottle up.
Goodnight, Moon
