Artist Statement

Tangent is a reflection of a memory about loss and fate. It explores the cycles of life and the temporality of experiences. The film focuses on the night of a relationship’s end. This night is the anchor while the couple recalls their time together through flashbacks that come in tides. Memories are impermanent. What is remembered may be unreliable in the haze of emotion and conceit. I am intrigued by the notion of time travel and what could’ve been, by all the possibilities and alternate realities being created every second. Time travel is utilized in this film to explore human connection and the ugliness of it, as well as themes of morality and free will. Tangent is a constant state of melancholy and a rhythm of slow drift. Knowing everything will eventually come to an end, how do you live in the present time? The coast line stretches ahead of the two characters while the winds blow them elsewhere.
